Requirements for Traveling to Guatemala from the United States
The Guatemalan Migration Institute indicates the following requirements for completing an immigration registration to enter the country:
- Valid passport.
- Demonstrate financial solvency.
- Hotel reservation or proof of stay in the country.
- Return ticket or other means of transportation to leave the country.
- Electronic traveler’s affidavit.
If you are a resident of Guatemala, the following requirements are required:
- Valid passport.
- Valid resident visa.
- Electronic traveler’s affidavit.
Some countries require a visa to enter Guatemala. However, U.S. citizens do not require a visa to enter Guatemala.
Once the form is completed, a QR code will be sent to your email that you must present at customs.
Can I Travel to Guatemala without a Passport?
To travel to Guatemala from any other country, it is necessary to present a valid passport, as it is an official form of identification in other countries. If you are a citizen of Nicaragua, El Salvador or Honduras, you do not need to present a passport because these countries are part of the Central American Convention on Free Mobility that allows the free transit of people; you only need an ID.

To enter Guatemala from the United States, it is not required to show vaccination status or proof of Covid.
