DPI – Mandatory Personal Identification Document of Guatemala

What is Guatemala’s DPI?

It is the Personal Identification Document (DPI) and has an official and public nature, it is personal and non-transferable. It is important to emphasize that all Guatemalans who live in the country, and those who live abroad, have the right to process and obtain the DPI.

How to Obtain a Guatemalan DPI in the United States

You must schedule an appointment with the consulate closest to your home. You can do so by clicking on the button provided here. You must bring the required documents to receive the DPI on the scheduled date.

Requirements for Processing the DPI of Guatemala

The requirements for processing DPI may vary according to the following :

To acquire your first DPI

  • Corresponding payment receipt.
  • Submit Certification of registration (original and copy).

To replace the DPI

  • The only requirement is to submit the corresponding payment receipt.

Renewal of DPI

  • Receipt of corresponding payment

Guatemalans abroad:

  • Original and copy of the birth certificate. If you do not have it, you can process it through Renap online or through the Renap SE app.
  • Make the payment of 15 dollars at the selected consulate.

In case of people over 60 years old:

Persons over 60 years of age will be exempt from the costs arising from obtaining the DPI, in particular for the first DPI services and the replacement of the document.

Steps to Renew Your Personal Identification Document

If your DPI has expired, you must follow these procedures to renew it : Step 1: Go to the corresponding website.

The first thing is to enter the Renap electronic services website.

Step 2: Provide personal information.

Once inside the Renap platform, enter your Unique Identification Code (CUI) and your access code. If you do not have an account, click on the option: “Register”.

Step 3: Follow the system instructions.

Select the electronic service of your preference.

Step 4: Check the status of the procedure.

Constantly visit the Renap website, in the section: “Check the status of the DPI procedure”, and stay alert for when your document is ready to be delivered.

DPI Prices

In Guatemala, the DPI procedure costs Q85.00. If you are based in the United States, the price is $15.

DPI Guatemala Numbers

The DPI has a unique thirteen-digit code, which is non-transferable and allows Guatemalans to differentiate themselves socially and legally. The number will accompany the citizen until the day of his death.

The document will be delivered within 30 business days at the Renap offices or at consular offices.
